Farming and Mining

The Upper Murray is known for its pure Environment; air, water and land. Farming has been a primary industry in this district since European settlement. There are several well known stud farms, excellent diary and beef cattle and historic runs. Timber cutting was also important to our district

Mining bought many newcomers to the area to explore at Mount Elliot, east of Corryong, the Zulu area and Kiama in the north. Many fossickers also tried their luck in the local waterways, where gems and gold were found.
